Challenge: how would Steve react to finding a long lost brother?
Summary: Steve is home one day and his father gets a mysterious
message. Steve then investigates more about the call and finds
out something that he may never be able to forgive his father
for.
This is basically a normal day for everyone at community general.
No accidents or anything else. Amanda, Jesse, and Mark are
sitting in the lounge talking like they normally do on a slow
day. While they were doing this, Steve was at home taking the day
off and relaxing. Well, he was until his father got a mysterious
message on the answering machine.
Ring, ring, ring, ring.
"This is the Sloan residence, we can't come to the phone
right now, but if you leave a name, number, and a message, we
will get back to you as soon as possible."
Beep.
"Hi, dad, its me, tom. Well, I guess that your not home, so
just call me back at 555-4456. Bye."
Steve heard this message and wondered what this guy was talking
about. He got up and replayed the message and wrote down the name
and number. Then, he went and left a note on the counter saying
that he was going to be at the station. He left and drove his
truck there.
Once there, he went up to his friend.
"Mindy, can I use this computer for a little while?"
"Sure, but turn it off once your done."
"Okay, thanks, I owe you one."
So he typed in the number and he got a whole lot of stuff about
this so called tom Sloan. He searched a little further and found
out that his father gave him up for adoption when he was four
months old. This was before Steve was born, so he didn't know
anything about this. He printed the information and turned the
computer off. He then left for BBQ Bobs.
There he sat down and studied the information he pulled off the
computer. Jesse was there, so he came over because he saw that
Steve was sitting there alone.
"Hey, Steve," Jesse said," I saw you sitting here
alone, and I thought that you could use the company."
"That was nice, but I need to be by myself right now."
"Okay," he got up and left Steve alone.
Steve sat there till eight thirty, and then he went home. Mark
was home by then, and he greeted Steve at the door.
"Hi, dad. I was wondering if you got your message yet?"
"Yes, I did, why?"
"Because I after he called, I went to the station and found
out who he was. How could you do this to me?" Steve was
getting emotional and mark told him to sit down." dad, I
don't need to sit down, what I need is some answers."
"Okay, your mother and I were young and when we had Tom, we
couldn't take care of him. I had just gotten out of medical
school and your mom was still working on her degree."
"Yes, well that gave you no right to keep my older brother
from me. Hell, all I know is that you lied when I found that
picture. How am I supposed to trust you when you lied to
me?"
"Son, I'm so sorry, but I hope I can have your forgiveness.
Tom is coming over Tomorrow and I hope that you will want to meet
him."
"I will talk to him, but I can't forgive you. Not now and
not yet."
With that, he stormed out of the house and down the beach. When
he found a quiet spot, he cried. He wondered how this had
happened to him and he just wanted it to be over with.

(Well, he had gone home that night and went to bed) now it was
six in the morning and he got up. His brother was coming today
and he had to be ready to meet him.
At nine, Tom showed up. The doorbell rang and Steve answered it.
"Steve, I never thought that I would see you. I can't
believe that it is you."
"Yeah, it is great seeing you to."
They went into the living room and found mark sitting there
looking off into space.
"Dad, look who is here."
"Tom, it is good to see you."
"You to dad."
They talked forever and at the end of the day, they were a family
again.
Conclusion:
Several months have gone by and Steve forgave his father and his
brother came to live with them. His brother got a job as a lawyer
and life has moved on. They spend Saturdays surfing and sundays
sleep.
